Jamon Jordan
I am a marine scientist, photographer, and videographer.

My "Why"
The ocean is an awesome force sustaining every living being on this planet. I study the sea to satisfy my curiosity and support what supports us all (and hopefully capture some good visuals along the way).

Research
My research delves into marine spatial ecology, exploring how marine species interact with their dynamic ocean environment over space and time. This understanding is vital for developing effective, timely conservation and management strategies, particularly as our oceans face unprecedented warming and disruptive marine heatwaves that significantly impact ecosystems and fisheries. My Master's work focuses on the proposed Chumash Heritage National Marine Sanctuary, where I am integrating seascape ecology principles into species distribution models. Specifically, I model the distribution of swordfish (Xiphias gladius), a culturally significant species for the Chumash People and a valuable fishery in the California Current. Because swordfish are challenging to study directly, fisheries data models offer crucial insights into their ecology and allow us to forecast how their distributions might shift under future climate change scenarios.
Photography and Videography
Outside of science, I am very passionate about photography and videography both as a professional trade and an art form. I have a small sample of my work on this site, but to learn more about my services, please click the link to my Images by Jamon website.
Outreach
I directed, produced, shot, and edited this video for the 50th Anniversary of the Marine Resource Management Program at the OSU College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science
I was a moderator for the discussion of Dr. Dawn Wright's book talk on Mapping the Deep hosted at the PRAx center at Oregon State University.
